Dear Parents,                                                                                             8/26/16

We have had another good week.  This has been a really great start to the school year.  We are starting to work on letter identification.  We are working toward all students knowing their upper and lower case letters and the sounds they make by the end of the 1st 9 weeks.  Please work with your child on recognizing their letters and sounds.  We will be working on numbers 0-10, also.

A poem we have been working on this week:

Ten little fingers, ten little toes,

Two little eyes, one little nose.

Put them altogether and

What do you have?

You got “ME” and that’s a lot!!!!!

Thank you for the snacks.  The children and I appreciate you sending them.  They are getting hungry toward the end of the day.  Please remember to send the $20 supply fee if you have not already.

Next week, we will be doing lots of activities with “Brown Bear, Brown Bear”.

Dear Parents,                                                                                     8/19/16

We have had a super first week!  We are getting to know our new friends.  Our class has 15 students (11 boys/4 girls).             This week we did several activities with our names.  Next week, we will be doing “me” activities.  Also, we will start discussing and doing activities that are related to  “our families.”
We have been doing a letter a day just to do a quick introduction.  We have been talking about rhyming words and blending syllables to make words in Reading.
In Math, we have been working with the number 1-3 (what the numeral looks like and how many items make that set).

Here are a few books that we have read:

“I’m Rocking in my School Shoes”                                                                                                                                                                      “The Kissing Hand”                                                                                                                                                         “Chrysanthemum”

A finger play that we did this week is:

I wiggle my fingers.

I wiggle my toes.

I wiggle my shoulders.

I wiggle my nose.

Now all the wiggles are out of me.

And I’m as still as I can be.
I had a few parents volunteer to send snacks.  If you would like to participate, please send healthy snacks next week.  Some examples of healthy snacks are any type of crackers (graham, animal, gold fish, cheese, etc.), pretzels, fruit roll-ups, some kinds of cereal, raisins, fruit, etc.
Also, Mrs. Freeman wanted all teachers to remind parents to please stay in their cars and drive through the pick-up line if they are picking up their children in the afternoons.  Also, if your child eats breakfast at school please have them in the cafeteria by 7:45am if you are bringing them to school.
I will be making a homework folder in the next few weeks.  We will never have more than two days a week that it will come home.  Please watch and help your child as they do their work.  Never work longer than 5 to 10 minutes at a time.  Please be sure that it comes back to school the next day.
Please send back all colored information sheets from the pack of papers from the office.
Please send supply fee as soon as possible if you haven’t done so.
T-shirt orders are due by Monday, August 22nd.

You can contact me at 284-3586 (school) or if you ever need me.

Thank you,
Gwen Gray
