I began teaching at Hector Public Schools after graduation from college in 1981. I have taught fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. I have taught all subjects at those grade levels, but I have mostly taught reading and social studies. I am starting my 36th year with Hector. This year I am teaching fifth grade U.S. history, sixth grade world history, seventh grade world geography, and eight grade Arkansas history.
I am married to Patricia Burgener Hallum. We married in 1993 at St. Vincent, Arkansas. Patricia works at Woderview High School. Patty and I have two children, Lance and Alaina. They both graduated from Wonderview High School. They are grown now, so Patty and I live alone except for our cat, Louis. He did not start out to be our cat, but like many children’s pets he somehow became our responsibility.
I like to read and work in the yard. When I’m not in school I do lawncare, including cleaning and mowing a cemetery. I also like to walk and work out at the gym. I love to watch sports, especially baseball. I am a Cardinal fan. Of course I am a Razorback fan as well. I have been a Wildcat fan since the 1960s!
